Are you considering foam insulation for your home, but you’re wondering about how long the installation process will take?

The amount of time it takes to spray foam a house will depend on the size of the project. A few other factors also determine how long the installation will take.

With more than 20 years of experience, RetroFoam of Michigan’s installation crews are a fine-tuned machine. Most houses can be insulated in one day or less, and it can take two if we are insulating the attic, crawl space, or rim joist, as the first day would be the removal of old insulation.

Let's take a deeper dive into how long it takes to insulate different areas of the house.

How Long Does it Take to Spray Foam a House?

When it comes to insulating your home with foam, the big question is often how long does insulation take to install.

It's a great question because, as with many home improvement projects, timing is key.

So, let's break down what you can expect for different parts of your home.

All Existing External Walls

Starting with the walls, adding injection foam insulation to the enclosed cavities is a relatively swift process, taking about two to five hours on average.

Several factors play into this timing, including the size of the area being insulated, the type of siding on the home, whether your house spans one or two stories, and the presence of any architectural features or bump-outs.

Attic Spray Foam Insulation

Heading up to the attic -- insulating this space with spray foam is a bit more involved and could potentially take one to two days.

The variance largely depends on whether there's old insulation that needs to be removed first. If so, a separate team will come out a day or two ahead of the installation crew to take care of the removal.

Once the area is clear from old insulation and prepped, the installation crew can usually get the job done in a single day, though the specific shape of your attic and how easy it is to access and move around in can influence the duration.

Crawl Space Spray Foam Insulation

Insulating a crawl space is relatively quick, typically taking about two to three hours.

The exact time can depend on whether old insulation needs to be removed and the ease of accessing various parts of the crawl space, especially if it's designed with hard-to-reach areas.

Rim Joist Spray Foam Insulation

Finally, insulating the rim joist of your home is usually a quick task, wrapping up in roughly one to two hours.

This can extend a bit if there's a need to remove old fiberglass insulation or if the rim joist is difficult to access due to the basement's design or clutter that might be in the way.
