You are all set to begin the foam insulation installation process, but you want to know if it is safe to be in your home or if you need to make other plans.
Safety with Foam Insulation Materials
When installing RetroFoam injection foam into enclosed cavities, like exterior walls, you won’t notice any smell at all because there is no off gassing.
Icynene spray foam does have a slight odor when it is being applied, but we ventilate the areas where it is being installed to make sure we get the smell out of the house. Since you wouldn’t want to be hovering over the crew as they installed the foam insulation, you would be able to be in other areas of your home where work isn’t being done.
It is also a safe material and it is a certified Greenguard, Gold Standard product that is made with a very low concentration of volatile organic compound (VOC), so you shouldn’t notice a huge smell and within two hours you wouldn’t notice any smell at all.
