You’re known as the modern homeowner in your neighborhood.

Granite countertops. Oh yeah.

Stainless steel appliances. Dang.

Incandescent light bulbs. Wait, what?

Vintage is all the rage now, but going old school doesn’t make sense when it’s costing you money.

That’s right, overlooking the importance of light bulbs in your home is a major, not minor homeowner mistake.

This light bulb, not that

Consumers Energy reports that lighting the normal home, which averages 30 light fixtures, can require more energy than your laundry, refrigerator and dishwasher energy usage combined.

Light bulb go off yet?

Elevate your home to a truly modern masterpiece by outfitting your lighting fixtures with CFL and LED light bulbs.

Say it with me now. Energy efficient light bulbs, energy efficient light bulbs, energy efficient..., well, I think you’ve got it.

Anyways, CFL and LED may sound like unpopular sports leagues, however, they are becoming more popular lighting options that use less energy and last longer.

“Energy-efficient lighting has reduced costs for many Michigan households and businesses in recent years,” said Brian Wheeler, spokesman for Consumers Energy. “Since 2009, customers have made use of Consumers Energy sponsored rebates and purchased over 11 million energy- efficient bulbs to reduce energy use and costs.”

CFL light bulbs use at least 25% less energy and LED light bulbs use at least 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.

The best energy efficient light bulbs come with the Energy Star sticker affixed to them. They have energy bill savings of $30 - $75 and can last 10 to 25 times longer than incandescent light bulbs, according to Energy Star.

The future

Despite the clear savings, CFL and LED light bulbs haven’t become quite mainstream yet.

In fact, nearly 70% of light bulb sockets in America still contain inefficient light bulbs, Consumers Energy reports.

But you know better now.

And don’t fear; CFL and LED light bulbs fit perfectly into your home’s lighting fixtures that currently use incandescent light bulbs.
