You are considering foam insulation for your home, but you are wondering what is the difference between spray foam and RetroFoam injection foam.
It really comes down to the way the two materials are installed, because there is no difference in the efficiency of the products. They accomplish the same goal of making the home a more comfortable space while reducing monthly energy bills.
Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation can be used in new build homes or in homes where the owner is looking to retrofit their attics, walls, crawl spaces, or rim joists, as well as any open cavity.
RetroFoam of Michigan uses Icynene spray foam to create an air barrier while sealing walls, floors, and ceiling cavities against air movement. This includes spaces around electrical outlets and light fixtures, as well as the area where the walls meet the windows and doors.
Spray foam insulation works great in open cavities and is installed just how you would think – by spraying the material onto the cavity. Open cell spray foam can expand 100 times its original size to ensure it fills all of those nooks and crannies that traditional insulation doesn’t cover.
Injection Foam Insulation
Injection foam insulation is used in closed cavities, like exterior walls.
Here at RetroFoam of Michigan we use RetroFoam injection foam to seal enclosed cavities against air movement. The injection foam, like the spray foam, never loses its shape in the cavity like more traditional forms of insulation like fiberglass and cellulose tend to do.
Injection foam is installed in the exterior walls by being injected into holes drilled into the stud cavities. Crews will remove a row of siding, drill holes into each stud cavity, and then inject the foam until the cavity is full. Next the holes are plugged and the siding is replaced.
